SYNOPSIS
Social entrepreneurs do not believe in waiting for government or the business sector to solve fundamental issues of health, education, and economic development. They see innovative ways to get personally involved and with even minimal investment make a difference in solving seemingly intractable problems. In so doing, they help move entire societies forward .Social entrepreneurs are individuals who see innovative answers for some of society’s most pressing problems. The society they address can be close to home or frequently in a foreign land where basic human needs are overwhelming.
Social entrepreneurs strive to combine the heart of business with the heart of the community through the creativity of the individual. This new breed of business model would normally be led by a passionate and dedicated group of entrepreneurs. They are often seemed to be possessed by their ideas, committing their lives to changing the direction of their field. They are both visionaries and ultimate realists, concerned with the practical implementation of their vision above all else. Social entrepreneurs are not motivated by profit and often work through non-profit organisations and social activist groups.
The 3rd WIEF-UiTM Global Discourse themed, “Social Entrepreneurs: Agents of Change” will feature a line-up of prominent local and international speakers sharing their varied experiences, views and perspectives. Amongst others, the Panel Speakers will address the many challenges facing social entrepreneurs arising from the population explosion, technological advancements, complexities of living, funding issues, accountability as well as strategies to measure social impact.
This programme is an opportunity that should not be missed by anyone to engage and discuss in a productive discourse, and will provide a platform for participants to learn how others are living change, and be inspired to create change that could impact our society!
