Public lecture on “MUSLIM CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY”

Speaker: Professor Dr. M. Shamsher Ali

Professor Dr. M. Shamsher Ali obtained his PhD in Theoretical Nuclear Physics from Manchester University, UK in 1965. He is well known as the Founder Vice-Chancellor (1992-96) of Bangladesh Open University. He served as Professor of Physics at the University of Dhaka from 1982 to 2006. Prior to teaching, he had worked at the Pakistan and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commissions for about 21 years in various important positions.

Professor Dr. M. Shamsher Ali has been elected as President of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences for the period of 2004-2012. On different aspects of Science and Technology, he delivered more than 300 talks on TV and Radio; broadcast a series of talks on BBC on Science & Culture; prepared a documentary film on 'Science learning at home' at a UNESCO sponsored workshop and TWNSO (Third World Network of Scientific Organizations). He also delivered a series of talks on the relation between Science and Religion. He authored several books in science & technology and religion and published a large number of papers in various international journals. He is actively involved with interfaith dialogue. He visited many countries of the world. Currently, he is the Vice-Chancellor of Southeast University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
